The race to playoff in Tata IPL 2025 is getting more intense with each passing day. The competition for qualification has begun and seven teams are still fighting to seal their spot in top 4. The clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans on May 6, 2025 took several dramatic turns as the play was affected by rain at regular intervals.

In the first innings, Mumbai Indians posted a respectable and fighting total of 155 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Will Jacks, the leading run scorer for MI hit his first half century of the season, scoring 53 runs in 35 balls. Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial knock of 35 runs off 24 deliveries. MI lost 6 wickets in last 10 overs, thereby scoring only 66 runs in the latter half of the inning.

Gujarat Titans was lagging behind by 5 runs after the third rain break but eventually they won after getting a revised target of 147 runs in 19 overs. They needed 15 runs off 6 balls which made the game more interesting and exciting. Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee finished the match on the last ball when GT needed 1 run off 1 ball. The thrilling 3 wicket victory by GT has strengthened their position in the top 4. The highest run scorer for GT was Shubman Gill who scored 43 runs off 46 balls. Jos Buttler also contributed significantly through his inning of 30 runs in 27 balls.

The bowlers of Mumbai Indians gave a tough time to the batsmen of Gujarat Titans and kept them under pressure by taking quick wickets. The bowling display by Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult was phenomenal though the result was not in their favor as they ended up on losing side. Jasprit Bumrah conceded just 19 runs and took 2 wickets in his spell of 4 overs. Trent Boult also bowled 4 overs and conceded 22 runs only and took 2 wickets. Ashwani Kumar, an inexperienced young lad bowled exceptionally well. He conceded 28 runs in 4 overs and clinched 2 wickets.
